Marin Defeats San Francisco in Commanding 17-3 Victory

In a commanding display of teamwork and offensive firepower, College of Marin women's water polo team cruised to a 17-3 victory over San Francisco. From the opening minutes, Marin set the tone, overwhelming their opponent and leaving little room for a comeback.

First Quarter Surge

Marin wasted no time establishing their dominance. Anabelle Phillips opened the scoring just 25 seconds into the match with an unassisted goal, setting the pace for what would be a high-scoring quarter for her team. Goals quickly followed from Jane McNevin, Delaney Mannor, and Marlee Ostrom, with assists coming from a strong supporting cast including Delaney Mannor, Marie Fehring, and Jane McNevin. By the end of the first quarter, Marin had built a commanding 9-3 lead. San Francisco's Keianna Pineda, Serawit Ezra, and Cristina Bracamontes managed to net late goals to get their team on the board, but Marin’s lead was insurmountable.

Second Quarter: Marin’s Consistency Continues

The second quarter saw Marin continue their scoring spree. Delaney Mannor, who finished the game with an impressive performance, scored early, assisted by McNevin. Anabelle Phillips kept her momentum going, notching another goal. Marin continued to pull away with goals from Mannor, McNevin, and Ostrom, stretching the lead to 14-3 by the end of the quarter.

Third Quarter: Closing It Out

The third and final quarter was no different as Marin refused to take their foot off the gas. Phillips, adding to her already impressive tally, scored her fifth goal of the game. Lilly Jacob and Marie Fehring rounded out the scoring, leaving San Francisco unable to muster any response. The final score settled at 17-3 in favor of Marin.

Standout Performances

Anabelle Phillips was unstoppable, leading Marin with five goals, while Delaney Mannor contributed four, with several assists as well. Marin’s attack was well-supported by Jane McNevin, Marlee Ostrom, and Marie Fehring, who all played critical roles in setting up scoring opportunities.

Marin’s suffocating defense and relentless offensive pressure left San Francisco unable to establish a rhythm, and they capitalized on nearly every opportunity they created. The victory underscores Marin’s strength and sets them up as a team to watch moving forward.

Marin’s next match will be against San Diego Miramar and Southwestern in the 2024 Mountie Classic at Mt. Sac College in Walnut, CA on Friday, September 27th.
