College of Marin has always had a bright history when it comes to transferring athletes to centers of higher learning. In the past week two former Mariners Volleyball players have moved on to the University of California Davis. Jennifer Huezo, a setter from the 2015 Volleyball team and Alexa Honsberger the libero for the 2017 began their first semesters at UCs this week. Huezo at UC Davis and Honsberger and UCSB.
Huezo played for former Volleyball coach Lindsay Bacigalupi in 2015 before transferring to Orange Coast College for the 2016-2017 school year. Huezo returned to Marin this past summer and has been a practice player for the 2017 College of Marin Volleyball Team. In the 2015 Season Huezo competed in 23 matches and averaged 6.1 assists per set, 1.27 digs per set and had a hitting percentage of .291 as the starting setter for the Mariners.
Alexa Honsberger served as the starting libero for the 2017 Mariners Volleyball team under current head coach Lisa Gera. She competed in the first twelve matches of the season culminating with the team's thrilling 3-2 win over Yuba College on September 22nd. For the year she averaged 3.84 digs per set, 0.79 assists per set and 0.47 aces per set. Her finest match came against Santa Rosa Junior College on September 6th where she recorded 26 digs, two assists and two aces.
Both Honsberger and Huezo will be remembered fondly by the entire College of Marin Athletics Family.
