The College of Marin Volleyball team has faced a difficult schedule in their first two weeks of competition. A grueling first week saw the team compete in four matches in just three days. The second week of competition saw back to back games against City College of San Francisco and Cosumnes River College.
The September 8th match against City College of San Francisco got off to a rough start as San Francisco raced out to a 25-9 first set victory. However the Mariners showed resilience with a close second set, but still fell to San Francisco 25-22. The third set was closer than the score line indicated as City College of San Francisco won the set 25-16 and the match 3-0. Tate Dobbins led the scoring attack for College of Marin with 13 kills, two blocks and an assist. Jenny Huezo had three kills, two aces and 19 assists, while Kailey Walker had six kills and a pair of assists.
The second match of the week against Cosumnes River College was the second in as many weeks between the two teams. They previously squared off at the Skyline College Classic where Cosumnes emerged victorious in four sets. Wednesday’s match did not start off as Marin would like, as Cosumnes River dominated the first two sets by scores of 25-9 and 25-13. College of Marin rebounded to make the third set competitive, but still fell 25-21 as Cosumnes River took the match in three sets. Jenny Huezo had six digs and eight assists, and Tate Dobbins had three kills and seven digs.
The Mariners search for their first win with matches at Chabot College on September 16th before opening up Bay Valley Conference play at home against Napa College on September 18th.
