The College of Marin women’s basketball team closed out the preseason on a high note, defeating Mission College 67–57 on December 12 at home to improve to 7–6 overall.
Marin used a strong second quarter and relentless defensive pressure to pull away from the Saints. After a 16–16 tie at the end of the first, the Mariners outscored Mission 23–13 in the second quarter to take control of the game.
Jamaia Harrison and Amara Galvan led the Mariners with 12 points apiece. Harrison recorded her second double-double of the season, pulling down 11 rebounds to anchor Marin in the paint. Jaidyn Brown added 11 points, along with two steals and two blocks in a well-rounded performance.
Defense proved to be the difference for the Mariners, who finished with 15 steals and five blocks, forcing Mission into 24 turnovers. Emily Sauers led the way with four blocks, while Bella Turner added four steals that led to quick transition opportunities.
As the Mariners head into Bay Valley Conference play, they are averaging 66.7 points per game while continuing to build momentum on both ends of the floor.
Marin will open conference play at home against Napa Valley on Thursday, December 18, with a 5 p.m. tipoff.
