Women’s Basketball: A Season of Hunger and Potential

Women’s Basketball: A Season of Hunger and Potential

As the College of Marin Women’s Basketball team gears up for the new season, sixth-year head coach Emily Schaefer is eager to lead a competitive and ambitious squad onto the court. This year’s team, described by Coach Schaefer as "hungry," enters the season with a clear goal in mind: to win.

“We are hungry. Our players are extremely competitive and know how to win,” said Schaefer, who emphasized the winning backgrounds of many players. “Many of them come from programs with winning traditions, and they came here to win.”

Building from Last Season’s Lessons

Reflecting on last year, Schaefer acknowledges that both the coaching staff and players felt there were missed opportunities to achieve more. These close calls have fueled an intense offseason, with players and coaches channeling their motivation into preparation for a fresh start.

“Our staff and team from last season felt like we missed some opportunities to outperform our opponents and win games,” Schaefer shared. “We used those experiences as motivation during the offseason to improve and are taking those lessons into a new season.”

 Chemistry on the Court

One of the strengths of this year’s team is the natural chemistry between players. Several players have previously competed together, bringing a seamless camaraderie to the roster. This familiarity has allowed new and returning players to develop a strong sense of unity and confidence in each other’s gameplay.

“We have an incredible group of young women,” said Schaefer. “There are several players that played together before coming to Marin, and their familiarity with each other shows in the way they play.” This natural synergy could prove to be a significant advantage as the team navigates the challenges of the upcoming season.

High Hopes and a Promising Journey

Looking ahead, Coach Schaefer is particularly excited about the journey that awaits her team. She sees potential in this group, not just in terms of wins but also in the way they’ll grow together over the course of the season.

“Each season is different and special in its own way,” she explained. “Looking forward to what the journey will look like with this team, the coaching staff and I could not be more excited about the potential for our team and what we have the opportunity to accomplish this season.”

With competitive fire, seasoned coaching, and strong team chemistry, the College of Marin Women’s Basketball team is set to make waves this season. Under Schaefer's guidance, they’ll look to turn their hunger into victories and establish themselves as a formidable presence on the court.

The Mariners open their season against Skyline College in San Bruno on Saturday, November 2nd at 5:00 PM.
