Mariners Defeat Saints in Defensive Battle

The College of Marin women's basketball team secured a hard-fought road win against Mission College on Thursday December 5th , defeating the Saints 54-48 in a defensive showdown. The Mariners relied on their rebounding dominance and timely scoring to secure the victory, improving their record in the process. 

Team Effort Leads the Way 

Marin displayed a balanced offensive attack, with contributions from nearly every player. Forward Sierra Calantas led the team in rebounding, pulling down an impressive 11 boards, including 4 on the offensive end, to complement her 9 points. Forward Isabella Zepeda chipped in 10 points, while reserve guard Ty Chappell added 11 points off the bench to lead all Mariners scorers. 

The Mariners capitalized on their defensive intensity, forcing 22 turnovers and collecting 9 steals. Their ability to disrupt Mission College's offense proved pivotal, as they held the Saints to under 50 points.

  • Rebounding Battle: Marin dominated the glass with 43 total rebounds. 

  • Bench Impact: The Mariners' reserves combined for 24 points, led by Chappell’s 11 and Ayah Abbassy’s efficient 5 points on 2-for-2 shooting.
