COM at Ohlone 2021

The College of Marin women’s basketball team was defeated by Ohlone College by the score of 73-46 in a road loss in Fremont on Saturday. The Mariners struggled offensively from the field and fell decidedly behind with a four point offensive output in the second quarter.
The COM Mariners played Ohlone tough in the first quarter and trailed 19-10 after 10 minutes. A second quarter scoring drought proved to be disastrous as Marin was outscored 21-4 to trail by a 40-14 margin at halftime. COM was able to flip the switch with a strong third quarter effort, outscoring Ohlone 20-14 to cut the deficit and enter the fourth quarter trailing 54-34. Marin was outscored in the fourth quarter by Ohlone 19-12 resulting in the final score of 73-46. It was Ohlone’s second win in a row. The Mariner’s loss dropped them to 1-5 in non-league early season play.
Guard Jayden Davis led the Mariner’s in the scoring column with 14 points on six of 12 shooting. She also led COM with seven rebounds. Center Kayley Armstrong chipped in with nine points and six rebounds. She led the Mariners with a team high seven assists. Tania Hernandez came off the bench to add seven points to COM’s scoring total along with a pair of rebounds.
Shooting woes once again plagued the Mariners as the team was 16 of 62 from the field for 26%. The team was just three for 15 from the three point line. COM also struggled from the free throw line cashing in just nine of 19 from the charity stripe for 47%. The women did clean up their earlier ball handling woes and cut back on their turnovers, recording 16 against Ohlone.
The Mariners return to action on Tuesday, November 23rd with a home game on the Don Barksdale Court against Mission College of Santa Clara. Mission is currently 3-3 this season. Tip-off is at 7:00pm.
