Freshman Swimmer Nick Cruse is College of Marin Athletics’ Mariner of the month for March. The Novato native posted four race victories in his two meets in the month. He competed at the Mariner invitational and the Las Positas Hawk Invitational.
At the Mariner Invitational he began his day with a strong performance in the Men’s 100 Yard IM, finishing in first place with a time of 55.37 seconds. He followed that with a victory in the Men’s 100 Yard Butterfly in 53.69 seconds and then took second place in the Men’s 100 Yard Free with a time of 49.27 seconds. He was also a member of the Men’s 200 Yard Free Relay team that placed second in the competition with a time of 1:38.01.
Cruse continued to have success in his second meet of the month at Las Positas College in Livermore. He began the day with a victory in the Men’s 400 Yard IM where he finished in 4:19.46 just seconds off the meet record and more than six seconds ahead of the second place finisher. He doubled his win total on the day with a first place finish in the Men’s 200 Yard Fly. Cruse completed the race in 1:58.87, the only finisher with a sub two minute time. He also competed in the Men’s 200 Yard Free where he took sixth place in a very competitive field in a time of 1:49.34 and was as a member of two Marin relay teams as well.
The Saint Ignatius graduate has had an excellent first season in black and gold, if maintains the quality of his performances he has a very good chance to represent College of Marin at the California State Championships at DeAnza College in early May.
