Mariners Men’s Soccer played host to an experienced Foothill Owls team on what was a hot Tuesday afternoon. The game started off as hot as the temperature, with both teams looking to score early goals. In the end, Foothill would leave Kentfield with the road win.
A possible missed penalty call in the first five minutes could have given the Mariners an early lead. However, Foothill capitalized and took the early lead themselves shortly thereafter. Much of the rest of the first half was controlled by the Owls, with the Mariners countering with a few opportunities. Foothill would put in a late first half goal to take a 2-0 lead.
The second half had a similar tone to the first, the Mariners staying close and trying to find solutions, with the Owls just a second ahead each time. Foothill would sandwich the second half with an early goal and a late goal at the end of the contest.
A good learning experience for the young Mariners, as Foothill played a high quality game. The Mariners are back in action on Friday, 9/10, as they travel to face another tough opponent at Hartnell.
