The College of Marin men’s basketball team put together a dominant weekend at the 4th Annual Don Barksdale Tournament, defending their home court with back-to-back wins over Hartnell and De Anza to capture the tournament title.
Day 1: Marin 80, Hartnell 73
The Mariners opened the tournament strong with an 80–73 victory over Hartnell on Friday evening.
Marin came out firing, building a 48–34 halftime lead behind efficient ball movement and a balanced scoring attack. Sophomore forward Olivier Borgol led the way with 17 points and 9 rebounds, controlling the paint on both ends. Te’Shawn Gamble added 9 points and 6 assists while pestering Hartnell’s guards defensively, and John Kingston Carmona chipped in 10 points and 3 rebounds despite early foul trouble.
Marin’s depth proved to be the difference — Jaevon Woodyard provided a spark off the bench with 13 points, and Jerone Williams added 8 points and 5 rebounds. The Mariners shot 43.8% from the field and outrebounded Hartnell 36–30, weathering a late Panther run to secure the win.
Day 2: Marin 98, De Anza 87
The Mariners carried that momentum into Saturday’s championship matchup, outlasting De Anza in a fast-paced 98–87 win.
Olivier Borgol delivered a monster double-double performance with 22 points and 11 rebounds, anchoring Marin’s interior dominance. Te’Shawn Gamble led all scorers with 21 points, adding 6 rebounds and 6 assists in a well-rounded effort. Guards K’Hamani Olivacce and Jerone Williams combined for 26 points, while John Kingston Carmona added 12 points and 7 rebounds to round out another balanced offensive showing.
Marin shot an impressive 50.7% from the field and pounded the glass for 52 rebounds, including 14 on the offensive end. Their hustle and physicality wore down De Anza late, as the Mariners closed the game on a 12–3 run to seal the victory.
