Mariners Make History in Victory Over Delta

Kentfield, CA — February 7, 2025

The College of Marin Mariners etched their names into the history books with a 9-6 victory over San Joaquin Delta, marking their first win against the Mustangs in over a decade. The electric atmosphere at Kentfield fueled the Mariners as they delivered a performance filled with timely hitting, solid pitching, and relentless determination.

The Mariners wasted no time setting the tone, exploding for four runs in the first inning. Caden Sta Maria singled, and Derek Bartram scored. Ben Sebastiani homered, 2 RBI, and Sta Maria scored (3-0). Danil Wells sealed the first inning with a home run (4-0).

San Joaquin Delta responded with four runs in the second inning (4-4), capitalizing on a brief lapse by Marin's starter, Logan Figlar. However, the Mariners' bullpen held strong. David Skaggs (1-0) entered in relief, steadying the ship with five innings of two-run ball while striking out four and walking none.

The game remained tight until the sixth inning, when Marin's bats roared back to life. Sawyer Sheldon singled, Dante Caiati advanced to second, and Danil Wells scored (8-6). In the eighth inning, Derek Bartram flied out to right field, and Wyatt Davis scored, extending the lead to 9-6.

On the mound, Tobin Richards and Samuel Schnitzer slammed the door shut. Schnitzer earned his third save of the season, showcasing poise under pressure, including a key strikeout to end the game.

Marin's offense was led by Adrian Ruiz, who went 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Wells, who contributed two hits, including his pivotal homer. Sebastiani's blast and Caiati's solo shot highlighted a power surge that proved too much for Delta's pitching staff.

This victory not only breaks a decade-long drought against Delta but also serves as a testament to the growth of Marin's baseball program. The Mariners will look to build on this momentum as they continue their season.
