Mariners Dominate College of San Mateo in 16-0

SAN MATEO, Calif. – The College of Marin baseball team extended their winning streak to three games in commanding fashion, shutting out the College of San Mateo Bulldogs 16-0 in a dominant road victory. The Mariners not only snapped San Mateo’s four-game win streak but did so in emphatic fashion, controlling the game from start to finish.

Marin’s offense exploded early, setting the tone in the third inning. D. Bartram delivered a clutch bases-clearing double, driving in A. Ruiz, W. Davis, and L. Fiene to put the Mariners ahead 3-0. C. Sta Maria followed with an RBI single, scoring Bartram and extending the lead to 4-0.

The Mariners continued their offensive onslaught in the sixth inning, adding four more runs. W. Davis smashed a two-run double, bringing home D. Wells and L. Fiene. C. Maria then added another RBI double, scoring Davis. A wild pitch allowed D. Bartram to score before G. Roth drew a bases-loaded walk, pushing the score to 8-0.

Marin piled on in the eighth and ninth innings, adding eight more insurance runs to put the game out of reach. A. Ruiz contributed two RBI singles, while G. Roth and D. Caiati each picked up RBI the hard way—getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. L. Fiene and W. Foster added RBI walks, further stretching the Mariners' commanding lead.

The Mariners' pitching was equally dominant, holding the Bulldogs scoreless and limiting their opportunities throughout the contest. Charles Veley was outstanding on the mound, tossing seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits, striking out five, and walking only one. Kai Beehler and Logan Figlar combined for two scoreless innings in relief, surrendering just one additional hit while striking out one more batter. The trio combined for a three-hit shutout, facing only 31 batters in total and keeping San Mateo completely off-balance at the plate. Veley earned the win, throwing 85 pitches with 58 strikes, while Beehler (13 pitches, 9 strikes) and Figlar (18 pitches, 8 strikes) efficiently closed out the game.

With the victory, the Mariners take this momentum into their match-up against a conference opponent. The Mariners will meet the Yuba College 49ers in a non-conference match-up on Thursday, February 27th at 1:00 PM in Kentfield, CA.
