2025 Season Preview

2025 Season Preview

The College of Marin’s baseball team enters the 2025 season riding the momentum of an explosive 2024 campaign. Last season, the Mariners shattered the state record for all-time home runs, blasting an astonishing 80, cementing themselves as one of the most potent offensive teams in the history of California Community College baseball.

This begs the question: can the Mariners deliver an encore performance? Will they match or even surpass the dominance they displayed last year?

Head Coach Steve Berringer, now entering his 24th season at the helm, acknowledges the heightened expectations. “When you set the state record, you have a target on your back as a great offensive team,” Berringer remarked.

Key Players to Watch

The Mariners’ lineup remains dangerous, with top hitters Derek Bartram and Wyatt Davis returning to anchor the middle of the order. The duo combined for an impressive 22 home runs last season and will be pivotal to the team’s offensive success in 2025.

“We’re excited to see what the incoming freshmen bring to the table offensively,” Berringer said. “With Derek and Wyatt leading the way, we’re confident this group can deliver another strong season at the plate.”

Pitching Staff: A Season of Transition

On the mound, the Mariners face more uncertainty. “We have some big shoes to fill,” admitted Berringer. “Only one pitcher is returning from last year’s staff. It’s a talented group of newcomers, but they’re still an unknown factor.”

The coaching staff has been working tirelessly to prepare the new arms for the challenges ahead. “It’s a talented group, but we’ll need to see how they respond under pressure,” Berringer added.

Coaching Staff

The Mariners will benefit from a deep and experienced coaching staff, many of whom are familiar faces:

  • Ryan Cooney (12th season)

  • Mike Terry (9th season)

  • Tony Bellisimo (2nd season)

  • Franklin Smith (2nd season)

  • Nick Roth (1st season)

Coach Berringer expressed confidence in his staff, saying, “We’ve got a great group of coaches who’ve worked incredibly hard to get these guys ready for the season. I’m excited to see all of that preparation pay off.”

Opening Day

The Mariners will kick off their 2025 campaign on Friday, January 24th, against Diablo Valley College. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM at their home field in Kentfield, CA. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the team as they look to make another deep run this season.

Final Thoughts

With a powerful returning lineup, an influx of fresh talent, and a committed coaching staff, the College of Marin baseball team is primed for another exciting season. While the pitching staff may be a question mark, the Mariners’ offensive firepower and veteran leadership should keep them competitive in the 2025 season.

Mark your calendars, Mariners fans—this promises to be another thrilling year of baseball!
