The Mariners faced off with the Yuba College 49ers on Satursay April 23rd in game three of their three game series. The Mariners already held a 2-0 series lead and were looking to cap off the series with a sweep.
Things did not start too well for the Mariners as they saw themselves down early in the game. Down 2 to 0 after the top of the 1st inning, the Mariners took over the lead 3-2 by the end of the 1st inning with some situational hits and sacrifice flies. Heading into the 2nd inning, the game was still all even. This was until Donovan Ratfield grabbed the lead for the Mariners by smashing a 2 run home run to deep left center field. From there the Mariners ran away with the game. Steven Elsner added on with his own 2-RBI double in the bottom of the 3rd inning scoring Trent Free and Eric Woodrow.
Donovan Ratfield decided one home run was not enough and added another to his tally in the 5th inning blasting another 2 run home run. The Mariners had a total run count of 11 and held Yuba to only 5 for the remainder of the game, clinching the series sweep.
Bryant Thornton picked up the win on the mound, going 3 innings in mid relief and allowing 0 runs. The Mariners are hot in April, in 10 games they are 8-2 and look to continue their hot streak on into their last regular season series and into playoffs.
