College of Marin Baseball’s season may have ended early, but their academic prowess continues. Three current and two former Mariners were named to the 2020 Academic All-State Team. Current players Owen Hamilton, Isaac Woldt and Jacob Berg earned honors and were joined by former Mariners Michael Benz and Ryan Moyer.
Current sophomore pitcher Owen Hamilton posted the top GPA of any Mariner, a 3.97. Amongst pitchers, Hamilton registered the fifth highest GPA in the state. He was excellent on the field as well with a 2-1 record in seven starts. Hamilton pitched 46.1 innings with a 2.72 ERA and 28 strikeouts.
Catcher Issac Woldt recorded a 3.66 GPA to earn his Academic Honors. At the plate he hit .316 in his sophomore year, improving on his .222 freshman year average. From behind the dish he threw out 28.6% of attempted base stealers.
Sophomore Centerfielder Jacob Berg was named to the Academic All-State Team with his 3.84 GPA. Berg hit .313 in the 2020 season with nine extra base hits and 16 runs scored. He also added a perfect fielding percentage in the outfield.
Baseball Alumni pitcher Michael Benz was excellent in his final year in Marin. In the classroom he posted a 3.88 GPA and on the mound he threw 63 innings. The innings eater had four wins, six saves and 68 strikeouts in a varied role.
Benz’ teammate Ryan Moyer also had an excellent academic season with a GPA of 3.66. He pitched 22.1 innings in his sophomore season with 12 strikeouts.
Five Mariners showed their prowess in the classroom and earned their place on the Academic All-State Baseball Team.
