Joey Potts, freshman forward for the Men’s Basketball team was name Men’s Mariner of the Month for January. The Petaluma High product was extra efficient throughout the first month of 2018 and was key to the Mariners’ pair of wins in January.
He opened the month with a nice effort the College of Alameda where he poured in 14 points and added four rebounds in Marin’s road loss. At Los Medanos a few days later he was all over the place with seven points, two rebounds, an assist, two steals and a block in the Mariners 81-68 loss on January 4th.
He was of the utmost importance in the Mariners 80-79 win over Solano College on January 6th as he recorded seven points, eight rebounds, two steals and four ferocious blocks in the game. Potts had a nice showing against Napa Valley College on January 17th, with 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a steal in the team’s close loss on the road. In the Mariners overtime win against Merritt College he had nine points and two rebounds as Marin defeated the Thunderbirds 90-84.
The forward enjoyed a perfect day from the floor on January 24th at Mendocino College as he scored 12 points on 5-5 shooting and 2-2 from the free throw line in Marin’s 82-74 loss.
Potts saved the best for last when it comes to his January performance. On January 31st at home against the Los Medanos Mustangs, Potts was magnificent with 18 points, seven rebounds and seven blocks. His defense helped keep the game close as the Mariners forced overtime late before ultimately falling 96-90.
In 10 games in the month of January, Potts averaged 9.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game. The freshman forward is making strides and is already a key contributor to Mariners Men’s Basketball.
