The Mariners battled the Yuba College 49ers on Friday in Marysville. College of Marin fought on the onrushing smoke to their final match of the season. Though the Mariners lost 3-0, every set was hard fought and within five points. Alejandra Leon led the way for Marin with 12 points in her final match for the Mariners.
Yuba was a dominant force in the first set on the attack. They managed 12 kills against just four errors in 39 chances for a .205 hitting percentage. Marin did their best, with more attacks, but also three more hitting errors. It was close, but Yuba edged Marin 25-21 in the opening set.
Marin had their best showing in the second set where they narrowly fell 25-23. Marin hit .148 and played well defensively, limiting Yuba's attack as well. It came down to the wire, but Yuba got a few crucial points that prevented the Mariners from tasting victory.
Despite trailing 2-0, the Mariners did not go quietly. They kept it close in the third set but could not overcome the Yuba attack. The 49ers had 13 kills and just six errors while Marin hit just .078.
Leon led the way with 12 kills and 16 digs for the Mariners. Fellow Sophomore Sarah Harris had a double double with 19 assists and 15 digs. Ashley Chanthongthip had two aces and a block assist in her final game for Marin and Hellen Sigaran had three digs in her last appearance. Salomi Galodamu, fighting an injury, managed to make an appearance in the final set and record a dig.
Marin finished the 2018 season with a 12-10 and an 9-5 record in Bay Valley Conference competition. They tied for third place with Yuba College.
