College of Marin Volleyball Drops Haughtily Contested Match to Los Medanos 3-1

The Mariners came out on the wrong side of a clash with first place Los Medanos on Halloween.  The two teams were evenly matched in terms of skill, but Marin unfortunately struggled to continually play fundamental volleyball which proved detrimental in the end. As a team, Marin hit neutral with just as many kills as hitting errors. Marin did compete in every set, and were outscored in the match by just a single point 91-90.

Marin got off to a hot start, taking leads of 8-4 and then 13-7 in the first set.  Los Medanos did not go quietly, rallying to tie the set up at 14-14. It was tied again at 18-18 before Los Medanos took a 22-20 lead and closed it out 25-22. The Mariners hit negative for the set, while the Mustangs were slightly positive, just enough to be the difference in the match.

The second set began much like the first, Marin took a 9-6 lead, forcing the Mustangs to call a timeout. They extended their lead to 14-10 over Los Medanos before a rally cut Marin' lead to 15-14. LMC took a lead 22-21 before taking the set 25-22.

Los Medanos rallied in the fourth set, and led 10-4 before Marin called a timeout. LMC led 18-11 before the Mariners pushed back. They cut the lead to 24-18 before three straight points brought Marin close at 24-21. The Mustangs would not yield and finished off the Mariners 25-21.

Salomi Galodamu led all players with 17 points. She added 11 digs, 12 kills, three aces and two total blocks. Alejandra Leon was right behind Galodamu with 16 points. She had a game high 14 kills with an ace, nine digs and two block assists.
