College of Marin Volleyball shook off their first conference lost to Los Medanos College with a convincing victory over the Cougars of College of Alameda on Wednesday evening. They improved their undefeated home record to 4-0 and took care of business in a 3-0 match. Both teams played excellent defense as Mariner Alejandra Leon led the team with 21 digs in the match.
The opening set was a back and forth affair as both teams struggled to find points against the oppositions defense. The Mariners took it down 25-19 on the strength of seven kills against just three errors. Alameda hit negative in the first with six kills and seven errors.
College of Marin dominated in the second forcing a negative percentage again for Alameda who recorded just two kills and six errors in the Mariners' 25-13 win. Marin was better with six kills against four errors in the set.
The third and final set was the closest yet as the Mariners' eked out a 25-22 match clinching set victory. Both teams managed wear down the defense as offense flowed better for both teams. The Mariners were a bit sloppy with nine errors in the set, but they offset it with 12 kills. Alameda nearly matched it with eight kills of their own against just three hitting errors.
Salomi Galodamu led all scorers with 12.5 points in the match. She had nine kills, an ace, one solo block and three block assists on the evening. She added nine digs, which was actually the fourth highest total on the team.
Alejandra Leon led the team with 21 digs, a new career high. She also added six kills and two aces for an eight-point evening. Magnolia Johnson had 16 digs on a day, a career high as well while Sarah Harris had a balanced game with 19 assists, 13 digs, an ace, and three kills.
Next up for the Mariners is a showdown with conference leading Solano College on Friday, October 5th in Kentfield with first serve scheduled for 6pm.
