Team Effort From Mariners’ Volleyball Yields 3-0 Sweep of Contra Costa

Marin Volleyball took home their third straight victory and remained undefeated in Bay Valley Conference play with a 3-0 victory over the Contra Costa Comets on Friday in San Pablo. Marin saw contributions from up and down the roster, including career games from Kirsta Rodriguez-McKee and Ashley Chanthongthip.

The first set of the match was very competitive but the Mariners eked out a victory 25-22. The Mariners were relentless on the attack with 46 total attempts. They recorded 16 kills and just seven errors for a .196 percentage in the first.

Marin took control of the match in the second set. They blasted Contra Costa 25-9 and committed just two hitting errors in the process. The followed up with a convincing third set victory 25-15 to sweep the match and extend their winning streak to three.

The Mariners' shared the ball extremely well as five different attackers had four or more kills. Rodriguez-Mckee had seven kills on ten attempts and only two errors for a team high .500 kill percentage. She added a pair of digs in an excellent seven-point day. Chanthongthip had a career high four kills and an ace in a five point showing that saw her it .429 on the match.

Alejandra Leon led all Mariners with 14 points. She had an excellent game with seven kills, ten digs, and six aces as well as a block. Sasha Urban had nine kills, an ace, four digs and 1.5 blocks while Sarah Harris had four kills, five digs and 25 assists on the evening.

The victory advanced the Mariners to a second place tie with Los Medanos at 2-0, just a half game behind first place Solano College.

Next up for Marin is a home date with Mendocino College on Wednesday, September 26th.
