College of Marin Volleyball showed no mercy to Cañada College team on Monday. The Mariners dominated from the outset, sweeping through the Cañada Colts with scores of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-8. The victory in the match brought to a close the Mariners non-conference schedule with a record of 3-5. A balanced attack led to a win for Marin as three players recorded double digit points in the rout.
Both the Mariners and the Colts played fairly evenly through the first set of the match, with both recording eight kills and four hitting errors. The Mariners excelled in service throughout the entire match. They recorded 22 aces in the match, while the Colts could muster just one. That proved to be decisive as Marin took the first set 25-15.
The second was closer as Marin had a few self-inflicted wounds with hitting and service errors, while Canada held their own. Marin went on the run down the stretch to take the set 25-19 and a 2-0 lead in the match.
Marin put the hammer down in the third set with 10 kills against 2 errors for a .667 hitting percentage that led to a 25-8 third set win.
Alejandra Leon had her finest match of the season with 11.5 points. She had seven kills, four aces and a block assist to go with an assist and six digs on the evening. Her strike partner Salomi Galodamu feasted on the Cañada defense with 15 points in the match. She recorded nine kills, five aces and two block assists as well as seven digs of her own.
Not to be forgotten was Sarah Harris who had her third consecutive excellent match. She had 10.5 points from the setter position with 18 assists, four kills, five aces and 1.5 blocks as well as five digs. The Sophomore has hit better than .571 for each of her least three matches. Ashley Chanthongthip also had a solid match with four aces, two digs and two block assists to her name.
Mariners after half a week off before opening Bay Valley Conference competition with the Napa Valley College storm at home on Friday, September 14th at 6pm.
