College of Marin Volleyball's busy non-conference schedule is almost at a close. The Mariners fell to Ohlone College 3-0 in Pleasant Hill, just hours after their match to Diablo Valley College. The Ohlone match was the Mariners seventh match in a ten-day span, and their penultimate non-conference competition of the 2018 season. Ohlone was a very tough squad for Marin, but the Mariners held their own over three sets.
The Renegades displayed a ferocious attack, recording 12 or more kills in every set and 40 on the match. The Mariners were forced to take a more defensive approach, which limited their attacking opportunities.
Ohlone took the first set 25-17, but the Mariners put up a good fight before succumbing. The second went to Ohlone 25-13, and though it appeared Marin might fade in the third, they instead put up their best effort. It was a battle but Marin fell in the end 25-22.
Sarah Harris showed her versatility yet again with 16 assists, an ace, seven digs, two block assists and five kills. In her last two matches Harris has tallied 13 kills and no errors on 21 total attacks.
Salomi Galodamu led the Mariners in scoring with 10.5 points. She had eight kills, two aces and a block assist as well as 11 digs on the match. Magnolia Johnson had a balanced game with a kill, an ace, three assists and ten digs.
Coach Lisa Gera was pleased with her team's fight in their second match of the day, "We learned about who we want to be as a team and bounced back against Ohlone with more intensity and demonstrated fighting spirit throughout match.
The Mariners finish up their non-conference schedule with a road match against Canada College on Monday, September 10th. They open Bay Valley Conference competition on Friday, September 14th with a home date with the Napa Valley College Storm.
