Mariners’ Volleyball Drops Road Match To Diablo Valley College 3-1

The grueling start the season neared an end on Friday as the Mariners had their last of three double days on the season. They matched up against the DVC Vikings and battled hard, but ultimately fell by a set score of 3-1. Sophomores Salomi Galodamu and Sarah Harris both set the tone with excellent showings throughout the match.

The first set was a bit sloppy by the Mariners, as errors and mental mistakes gave way to a lopsided 25-11 score. College of Marin bounced back considerably in the second set, as they battled with the Vikings and grabbed a slim 25-23 victory to tie the match up at one set each.

The third set proved to be the decider as Marin was very efficient, but not quite as DVC who made just a single hitting error against eight kills. Marin fell 25-22 and seemed to run out of energy as DVC blasted through the fourth set 25-15 with 13 kills and a .393 kill percentage.

Despite the loss, there were some excellent performances by the Mariners. Galodamu recorded 12 points in the match with nine kills, two aces and two block assists. She had just three errors on 16 attacks for a .375 kill percentage and chipped in five digs as well.

Outside hitters Sasha Urban and Alejandra Leon chipped in six kills each, and nine and seven digs respectively.

"We got off to a slow start against Diablo Valley," said Coach Lisa Gera, "Credit them [DVC] for having relentless pursuit the entire match."

The Mariners final match of their doubleheader is against Ohlone College at 4pm on Friday, September 7th.
