College of Marin Volleyball fell in their second effort of the season, a road match against Sierra College. It came on the heels of their first victory, just an hour earlier. The Mariners competed throughout their second match of the day but were unable to keep the intensity against the Sierra College Wolverines.
The first set was close as but Sierra took the victory 25-15. The Wolverines were ruthlessly efficient in their attack with 12 kills against just three errors in the opening set. Marin's energy waned and as the toll of the previous match became more and more apparent as the sets wore on. Sierra took a 2-0 lead with a 25-10 second set victory and followed with a 25-6 final set win. While the Mariners took the brunt of the Sierra attack, it was overall a good day as the team did open the season with a victory.
College of Marin had their difficulties penetrating the Wolverine's defense. Marin hit -.091 on the whole match with 10 kills and 16 errors on 66 attacks. Kirsta Rodriguez-McKee was the most successful Mariner with three kills on six attempts. Alejandra Leon had 3 kills of her own to compliment 14 digs and a half block. Sarah Harris had five assists and a dig while Magnolia Johnson had three assists and seven digs on the afternoon.
On the match Coach Lisa Gera was supportive of the team's effort. "We did the best we could given the circumstances. It was tough to play right after our previous match, and Sierra is a very talented team, but we fought, and we got good experience against a top competitor."
The Mariners continue their busy week with a pair of matches on Friday, August 31st at Cosumnes River College against the host school and Lane Community College of Oregon.
