The College of Marin Volleyball team finished up the first half of their conference schedule with a 3-0 victory over Mendocino College on Friday. Led by strong performances by Tate Dobbins, Kailey Walker and Jenny Huezo, College of Marin soundly defeated the Mendocino College Eagles in straight sets. The Mariners currently sit in fifth place in the Bay Valley Conference with a 4-4 record. The second half of the conference season begins Wednesday at Napa Valley College.
The first set began evenly matched before a run of aces by sophomore Kailey Walker gave the Mariners an insurmountable lead for the first set win. Marin ran off a 10-1 to start the second set. A scary fall left Jenny Huezo shaken after hitting her head, but she returned after a few minutes to lead the Mariners to a second set victory. The third set also went Marin’s way for a tidy 3-0 match win.
Huezo was the player of the game with 30 assists, six kills and seven digs. Tate Dobbins had 17 kills, seven digs and three aces and Kailey Walker chipped in eight kills and six aces. On the match Coach Lindsay Baciaglupi said “It was good to get back on the winning side, we had a great team effort, everyone contributed and it’s a nice way to build momentum for the second half of the season.”
The Mariners spend next week on the road with away matches with Napa and Yuba Colleges.
