Women's Soccer enjoyed their finest season in recent memory this year. The season came to a close Thursday in Oakland as they faced off against the Merritt College Thunderbirds. When the 90 minutes came to an end, Marin emerged with a 3-0 win. Ana Kravitz had a pair of goals, while Bella Santia added one of her own.
Marin was the better side from the opening whistle, but did not play that way immediately. They struggled to control the ball with several sloppy giveaways that thwarted opportunities to score early. Mairn found the net first, but not in open play. A crossed ball into the box by Tatum Robach was handled by a Merritt defender in the 30th minute, yielding a penalty. Bella Santia stepped to spot and converted to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. A lead that would remain through the rest of the first half of play.
Marin turned it on after the break, scoring their second goal a quarter of an hour into the second half. Bella Santia took a pass in the midfield and hit a through ball to fellow midfielder Ana Kravitz. She received the pass in the box and expertly finished past the Merritt keeper to double the Marin advantage. Just over twenty minutes later it was Kravitz at it again who this time intercepted an errant pass and scored from distance past the outstretched arms of the Merritt goalkeeper.
Marin cruised to a 3-0 victory on the afternoon and put the finishing marks on a very successful 2017 campaign. The Mariners took third place in the Bay Valley Conference with an 8-3-2 record. They were 10-4-4 overall in their 18 matches of competition. Kravitz finished the season tied for second on the team with eight goals. Santia tied for the team lead in assists with nine.
