College of Marin Track & Field faced some unusual competition in their own backyard. The Mariners made the journey to San Francisco State to take on a wide variety of competition. Colleges from Alaska and Hawaii made the trek to produce a very tough field for all participants.
The throwers made an impact for Marin as three took part in the shotput competition. Giulio Chiappolini took seventh in his flight with a distance of 9.79 meters. Bryan Medina was 10th with 9.38 meters and Iram Hernandez just behind at 9.04 meters.
Chiappolini made his season debut in the Javelin, taking sixth in his flight with a long distance of 34.44 meters. His other throw was shorter at 29.55 meters. His flight included several competitors from Humboldt State, Stanislaus State and Northwest Christian College.
Duncan Gardner made his debut in the Men's Mile and finished in under five minutes at 4:56.28. He took 11th place in his heat and finished 34th overall. Kirk Rider continued to improve in his first season as a track competitor. He set a personal record in the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.41 seconds.

The Mariners have a week of training before traveling to Merritt College for the Maurice Compton Classic on Friday, April 6th.
