The Mariners' took their undefeated, albeit single game record to Skyline on Friday afternoon and suffered their first defeat 3-0. Skyline blitzed the Mariners from the outset and took an early lead. It took a while but the visitors from Marin finally slowed the game down and managed to make second half more competitive. The end result was a 3-0 loss but, there were several encouraging signs throughout.
The Trojan's were the aggressors from the outset and their mindset paid dividends in the sixth minute. Erik Arias delivered a pass to Jehimy Arias who's shot eluded the reach of Mariners' goalie Bryan Rodriguez. The home team doubled their lead in the 13th minute was Marco Sahagun scored off a pass from David Garcia Garnica for a 2-0 lead.
The Mariners tightened their back four after the early leakage and kept the score line at 2-0 through the end of the first half.
The second half saw Marin as the better side for much of it, however they could not dirty the clean sheet of the Skyline defense. The Trojans struck for a third time in the 77th minute as Erik Arias scored an unassisted goal that effectively put the match out of reach.
Marin continued to fight through the final whistle but took a 3-0 defeat.
Bryan Rodriguez played all 90 minutes in goal for the Mariners and saved five shots, but allowed three goals. Marin combined for four shots on goal, but all were saved or parried by the duo of Skyline keepers.
The loss evened Marin's record at 1-1. They look go back on the winning side of the ledger on Tuesday, September 3rd as they visit the Foothill College Owls for a 1:30pm kickoff.
