Basketball’s Zamaria Odom is November Co-Mariner of the Month

Freshman Basketball player Zamaria Odom was named as Co-Mariner of the Month for November. The Mariner’s Forward excelled on and off the court throughout the month. In five games in the month, Odom averaged 11.8 points per game, 8.2 rebounds per game and 1.6 assists per game. Off the court he received high praise from teammates to strangers alike.

Odom opened the season with a seven-point effort in Marin’s win versus Skyline College on November 3rd. He struggled at times with his shot, but did corral seven rebounds and grabbed an assist a steal.

Odom picked it up considerably in Marin’s next game, a loss at Columbia College on November 10th, when had scored more than a third of his team’s 47 points. He tallied 17 points on 6-14 shooting with eight rebounds, an assist and two steals as well. Less than a day later Zamaria added 12 points, six rebounds and three assists in Marin’s 79-60 win over West Hills Lemoore.

After a 10-day layoff, Odom was back out on the court against Lassen College on November 20th. He finished the game nine points and eight rebounds while adding three assists in Marin’s 89-75 defeat. The following day Odom posted his first double double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds as Marin narrowly fell to Feather River 72-64.

While his stats have been impressive, the quality of his character was fully on display on the team’s visit to Sonora the weekend of November 10th. College of Marin played a pair of games against Columbia and West Hills Lemoore Colleges which they split. During the trip at the team’s hotel Zamaria befriended a visiting family from the Bay Area. He spent time with them at the hotel and invited them to the Mariners’ game that evening. They attended and afterwards Zamaria made sure to visit and speak to the family and their two young children.

A few days after the trip, the mother of the family wrote a glowing email to the entire College of Marin Athletics program thanking Zamaria and the entire team for their hospitality over the weekend.

Odom had a tremendous November, and is looking to build on that for the remainder of the 2018-2019 school year.
