Sophomore basketball player Eric Mireri was named as Co-Mariner of the Month for January. He led the Mariners to a 5-3 record in the month and averaged 13.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game during that time frame. The point guard even recorded his first career triple double in a victory over Los Medanos on January 9th.
The Mariners suffered back to back losses to begin 2019 but it was not for lack of effort by Mireri. On January 2nd against Contra Costa, Mireri struck for 21 points including four made three pointers in Marin’s 95-71 home loss. He followed that with 15 points and six assists in the Mariners’ 84-66 loss to Yuba College on January 4th.
Mireri helped earn Marin’s first win of the month over Los Medanos Mustangs in Pittsburg on January 9th. He was excellent all around with a 12 point, 10 rebound, 13 assist triple double in their 75-71 road victory.
The sophomore had a slow start but finished strong with a number of key late baskets in the Mariners 78-73 overtime victory against Solano College. Mireri finished with 11 points, five rebounds and four assists in the game. He followed that with an 11-point effort in the Mariners’ victory over Merritt College.
Mireri showed off his versatility against College of Alameda on January 23rd with a near triple double. He had to settle for the double with 10 points and 10 assists while adding seven rebounds and two steals for good measure in a win. He had another double double two days later at Mendocino with 19 points, 10 assists and four steals in Marin’s 78-68 victory. He finished the month with 12 points and six assists in Marin’s loss to Napa on January 30th.
The sophomore has had a tremendous season thus far and looks to finish strong as the Mariners push toward season’s end.
