Mariners' Basketball ended their 2018-2019 season with a road rout of the College of Alameda Cougars. College of Marin led big at halftime and carried it through to the final whistle for a 78-57 victory, their second of the season over the Cougars. Zamaria Odom and Joey Potts each turned in excellent performances in their likely final game for College of Marin.
The Mariners started out on fire and took an early lead they would not relinquish. Odom and Potts both dominated in their own ways, Odom with a mixture of drives and mid-range jumpers while Potts was a force in the paint. After 20 minutes of play Marin held a comfortable 15-point lead 37-22.
The second half saw the Mariners maintain their lead and empty the bench, giving every player a chance to say their on-court farewells to the 2018-2019 season. 10 of 12 Mariners scored in the game and all but one recorded a rebound. College of Marin cruised through the second half, even increasing their lead in route to a 78-57 victory.
Odom nearly missed a double double with 19 points and nine rebounds. He added three assists and was 7-8 from the field. Potts was equally as impressive with 17 points, eight boards and a block. He finished the regular season with 76 total blocks, third highest in the state.
Sophomore Eric Mireri added five points and nine assists in his final game, while Alfonso Murrie had a well-balanced game with eight points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals. Christopher Kress had a pair of threes and eight points total, Rodwell Cutkelvin knocked down a triple of his own and Franco Barefield was a perfect 3-3 from the field for six points.
The Mariners combined to shoot 53% on the day despite a rough 6-22 showing from deep. Marin's defense held Alameda to 31.7% overall including 7-23 from three-point land.
The victory set Marin's final record at 14-13, including 10-6 in the Bay Valley Conference.
