Mariners’ Basketball Grounds Solano Falcons 89-72

College of Marin Basketball snapped a two-game losing streak on Wednesday with a convincing victory over the Solano College Falcons in Fairfield. The Mariners unleashed a relentless offensive attack that resulted ultimately in an 89-72 victory. Four players scored in double digits led by Freshman Alfonso Murrie.

The Mariners started the by hitting several deep threes and built a five-point lead halftime. They knocked down five triples in the first half whiles Murrie had six field goals and 13 points. Jalen Chandler nailed a pair of three pointers and Malik Ghiden added points in his own right. Sterlen Thomas kept the home team close with 13 of his own in the first 20 minutes of competition.

College of Marin ramped up their second half offensive and poured in 51 points during the period. They emptied their bench and continued to score at will with 11 of 12 players getting on the scoresheet in the second half. As a team they made seven more three pointers as Zamaria Odom had 10 points while Joey Potts and Franco Barefield added seven each. Solano employed a two-man wrecking crew in the half with Courtland McLean scoring 16 and Jordan Adams 12. Solano's 39 points was no match for Marin who took the game by 17 points 89-72.

The Mariners' had one of their finest offensive showings of the season with 89 points including 12 made three pointers. They dished out 24 assists and grabbed 15 offensive boards.

Murrie recorded a double double with 16 points and 10 rebounds and added three assists and two steals. Eric Mireri only scored two points, but had another excellent game at point with 10 assists. Odom had 12 points, eight rebounds and three steals while Jalen Chandler had 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.

McLean led all scorers with 22 points, Adams had 14, Thomas had 13 and Rajan Washington added 10.

The win pushed the Mariners' record to 13-12 overall and 9-5 in Bay Valley Conference competition. Next up for the Mariners is the home finale against Merritt College on Friday, February 15th at 6pm.
