College of Marin Basketball visited Pittsburg on Wednesday evening. After a subpar first half, the Mariners dug in as a team and rallied past their hosts for a 75-71 victory. Sophomore Eric Mireri posted a triple double in the game, while Joey Potts led the Mariners in scoring with 19 points on the evening. The win pushed the Mariners Bay Valley Conference record back over .500 at 3-2.
The Mariners began the game on top, as they shot out of the gate and took an early 16-8 before the dark plague of turnovers started to haunt Marin. The Mariners committed 13 turnovers in the first half and saw their eight-point lead turn into a nine-point deficit 32-23. They steadied the ship down the stretch but went to the break trailing by eight 38-30.
The second half saw Marin flip the switch and hang on to the ball. They did an excellent job limiting turnovers as they yielded just four through the entire second half. Ball control, as well as solid shooting allowed Marin to push ahead of the Mustangs and ultimately take the game 75-71.
Mireri was excellent throughout the game, as he scored 12 points and led the Mariners with 13 assists and 10 rebounds, his first career triple double. Joey Potts was tops in scoring for Marin with 19 points, he added six rebounds and an astounding seven blocks in the game. Potts is second in the BVC and is fifth in the state in blocks per game. Alfonso Murrie added 13 points and five rebounds while Jalen Chandler had 11 points and seven rebounds as well.
