A day after managing just 47 points in a loss, the Mariners nearly matched that total in the first half of their game Sunday. Marin scored 40 first half points over West Hills Lemoore College and cruised to a 79-60 win, their second of the young season. College of Marin had four players in double figured, jointly led by Sophomores Eric Mireri and Joey Potts who each scored 19 in the game.
Marin began the game on a hot shooting streak, knocking down several shots to begin the game, they built a solid lead early and managed their advantage throughout the first half. After 20 minutes of play the Mariners led the Eagles 40-27. Prior to this game, Marin averaged just 21 points in the first half.
College of Marin nearly matched their scoring efficiency in the second half of the game as they outscored the Eagles 39-33. Marin had the chance to get all their players involved as the entire 13-man roster participated in the second half. Despite the emptying of the bench, it was a very well-played second half as the Mariners increased their advantage in route to a 79-60 victory.
As a team Marin shot 45.2% from the floor and 40.7% from distance. Despite being outshot by their opponent, the Mariners still managed a sizable lead, thanks to 17 more shots overall.
Potts had a double double with 19 points and 11 rebounds while Mireri had 19 points, rebounds and two assists. Jalen Chandler hit four three pointers in a 14-point effort and Zamaria Odom had 12 points and six rebounds on the afternoon.
West Hills was led by Tresean Jordan with 23 points while teammate Dylan Gonzalez added 17 for the Eagles.
Marin has a 2-1 record after their first few weeks of competition. They have a week of preparation ahead before a pair of northern road games at Lassen College on Tuesday, November 20th and Feather River College on Wednesday November 21st.
