The Mariners faced a second consecutive tough opponent on Friday at the Ohlone Tournament and fell to Modesto College 90-72. The Modesto College Pirates blitzed the Mariners in the first half before settling in and maintaining their advantage through the second half of play. Marin had excellent contributions from Derek Morgan and Kevin Kahriman who each recorded a double double in the game.
Modesto came out firing and knocked down several three pointers in the first half. They opened up a double digit advantage early on and cruised to a 53-34 first half lead. Marin kept it close in the second half, as the outscored Modesto 38-37 but it was not enough to mount a serious threat to Modesto's lead.
Sophomore Forward Derek Morgan filled up the stat sheet on Friday with 19 points on 8-16 shooting and 3-4 from the charity stripe. He added four offensive and 12 defensive rebounds and seven assists to go with a steal and two blocks. Freshman Center Kevin Kahriman was extremely efficient inside with 16 points on 8-10 shooting and ten rebounds on the afternoon. The Mariners shot 41.3% on the afternoon and were 12-18 from the free throw line.
The team has a few days to rest and recuperate before they host Butte College on Saturday, November 18th.
