College of Marin Freshman Beach Volleyball player Hellen Sigaran was named Women's Mariner of the month for March. The Bethel Christian Academy standout has grown by leaps and bounds in her first year at College of Marin. She played on the indoor team in the fall and thrived in her limited chances. This season, on the beach, Hellen has very much hit her stride.
Sigaran has competed primarily on the number three's team with Sarah Harris throughout the 2018 Beach Volleyball season.
They started their 2018 campaign at Gavilan College in a pair of matches against the Rams. In their first match they competed but were unable to overcome their opponent and lost 21-9 and 21-11. They faced Gavilan for a second time in the same day and were much more competitive as they fell 21-11 and 21-19 in the second set.
Sigaran was excellent in the second competitive day of the season at West Valley College. The team competed against the College of San Mateo and earned their first win of the season. Sigaran and Harris combined to sweep through their competition 21-15 and 21-17 to clinch the victory for the Mariners. In their second match of the day they faced an experienced West Valley who defeated them 21-6 and 21-11.
The final match day of the month was at Delta College in Stockton as Sigaran and Harris faced the host squad as well as Feather River College. Although they fell in both of their matches they competed admirably and earned the respect of their opponents.
Head Coach Lisa Gera had nothing but praise for Sigaran, "She continues to improve rapidly while demonstrating the utmost respect, selflessness, and enthusiasm. Her energy is contagious and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to coach her."
Sigaran and her teammates continue to improve throughout the inaugural season of College of Marin Beach Volleyball.
