Volleyball’s Sarah Harris Is September's Co-Mariner of the Month

Sophomore Volleyball player Sarah Harris was named Co-Mariner of the Month for September. The volleyball player from Weber High School was tremendous during the month averaging 6.88 assists per set, 2.2 points per set an astonishing .385 kill percentage in eight matches. Harris’ contributions were a major factor in the Mariners 5-3 record during the month, including a 3-1 record in Bay Valley Conference play.

Harris and the Mariners opened the month with a 3-0 victory over San Jose City College. It was over in a flash but Harris managed to rack up 26 assists, two aces, two digs and a kill in just three sets.

Sarah began an excellent attacking run against the Vikings in a 3-1 loss to Diablo Valley College on September 7th. She had eight kills in 13 attacks for a .615 hitting percentage in the match and added 22 assists, four digs and an ace. Later that day, against Ohlone College Harris recorded five kills, 16 assists and seven digs in the Mariners’ 3-0 loss.

Harris had a stellar performance in Marin’s final non-conference game against Canada College on September 10th. The sophomore had 18 assists, five digs, four kills, five aces and 1.5 blocks in her team’s 3-0 sweep of the Colts.

Four days later, against College of Alameda, Harris was at it again with seven kills, 27 assists, an ace and four digs in Marin’s 3-0 victory. The great run of play continued a week later against Contra Costa where she contributed 25 assists, four kills and five digs in a Mariners sweep. In another Mariners sweep, this time over Mendocino, Harris had 10 kills, two block assists, five kills and 29 more assists.

Harris’ hitting percentage of .386 in the month of September would put her tops in the Bay Valley Conference if she had just a few more qualifying attacks.

Overall the sophomore has had a tremendous campaign and looks to continue her brilliant run of play through the rest of the season.
