Sophomore basketball player Joey Potts was named as Mariner of the Month for December. The Mariners’ center had an excellent final month of the season, averaging 14.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in eight games.
Potts opened December with a near double double in the Mariners loss to Chabot College on December 1st. He recorded 11 points, eight rebounds and a pair of blocks in Marin’s 77-64 defeat. He set a career high in scoring just three days later as Potts poured in 22 points on 10-15 shooting against Folsom Lake on December 4th. He added nine boards and three more blocks, as Marin fell 101-83.
After a few days of rest Potts put on a show at the Foothill Tournament as he dominated in Marin’s three games in three consecutive days. He opened with a 14-point showing against top ranked Fullerton College before dropping 20 points and nine rebounds against Butte College in Marin’s 86-75 victory on December 8th. He finished the tournament with another 14-point game against DeAnza College in Marin’s three-point loss on December 9th.
Potts helped exact revenge on DeAnza a week later as he scored 13 points and grabbed four boards in Marin’s 76-65 win over the Dons at home on December 15th.
Joey Potts opened Bay Valley Conference play with a double double in Marin’s one-point win over Mendocino College on December 21st. He scored 11 and grabbed 13 rebounds with a pair of blocks in the Mariners 65-64 victory. He finished up the month with an eight-point, six rebound, showing versus Napa Valley College on December 28th.
Potts also excelled in the classroom during the Fall 2018 Semester as he was named to the College of Marin Honor List.
The sophomore looks to continue his dominant 2018-2019 season as he is among the state leader in blocks per game and total blocks.
